Drawn from life this is a portrait drawing that I did at Two Doors Studio and Gallery in Alsager, Cheshire. It was my first portrait from life for a long time and something I would like to concentrate on more, along with my cricket and sports drawings.
I drew Lorna for about an hour whilst she was working away on her i-pad and we chatted about all sorts of things. I then took the portrait away and worked on it for a full day the following week in my studio - working from the multitude of photographs I took whilst I was there. It was a great method, whilst I spent the hour mark making and noting points down on the paper I was observing her facial expressions, eyes and overall likeness. Along with the photos, my notes and memory I was able to produce a portrait that I truly loved. The only thing I did not like was the paper. I knew it was the wrong choice when I went as its very smooth and has no tooth to grip the charcoal, but it was all I had in the larger size at the time.
The second image is a collection of stages of the portrait.
