Meet Denis, he's the subject of my large drawing 'Morning Glow'. Drawn in charcoal, pastel and acrylic he's a pretty impressive guy, yet so calm and still - he reminds me to be patient and enjoy the feeling of the morning sun on my body...
Paulette Farrell - Artist
I am a figurative artist working and living in Cheshire, England. I draw mostly in charcoal and paint with oils. I love sports, particularly cricket which feature heavily in my work. I love attempting to capture the twisted body movement of cricketers, particularly the unnatural and unusual positions they get themselves in. I strive to bring to life the vitality and excitement of ‘the moment’ into all my drawings.
Using charcoal feels the most natural and comfortable of all the mediums. A great sense of calm and instinctive movement co-exist between the charcoal stick and my hand, an almost meditative state as the charcoal glides across the surface. Being such an expressive medium with it's immediacy I return to it tirelessly to represent movement and dynamic moments. Yet it is also a deeply sensitive medium, able to convey subtle changes in tone and value.
Birds and wildlife are also a passion of mine, with an endless supply of feeders and bird tables to share my space with these wonderful creatures. Again, using charcoal, I enjoy capturing the swift movement and sensitive expressive qualities of our British wildlife. So when it's not the cricket season I collect, photograph and sketch the Cheshire countryside & wildlife.
